Dress to Impress - The Academy Awards

Every year Chandace and I make a huge deal out of the Academy Awards, it's like our Super Bowl. We buy food and wine and usually invite people over, its usually super fun!

This year we were behind on our game and just decided to watch the awards together without any fuss. Once Chandace got her son to bed it was nearing 9:00pm but thankfully we had started recording the Awards hours ago so this just meant we could fast-forward through all of the commercials (YAY!).

We finally got settled, I found the recording and hit play on her TV and BOOM! the dark clouds rolled in. There at the bottom of the screen the full recording time only said "1:00". One hour.

Only one hour of the show had recorded and by 9:00 the awards were nearly 3/4 of the way over. We frantically tried to find a delayed recording with no luck. We watched the first hour and then went on to cut what felt like 3,000 strips of fabric for a new bunch of necklaces.

Luckily for us we had successfully managed to record our favorite part anyway, the red carpet. We were both kind of disappointed with everyone's fashion choices this year. Most were bland and boring and some people just went nuts (we're looking at you, Anne Hathaway).

Given the blah-ness of the carpet fashions we still had our favorites. Chandace loved Jessica Chastain's lovely copper number by Armani and Sally Field's airy red Valentino frock.

I loved Kerry Washington's coral and cream colored Miu Miu dress and Fan Bingbing's beautiful fuchsia Marchesa ensemble.

While we were discussing our favorites of the night we thought it would be really fun to poll you all to see which of our choices you like the best. The dress that comes out on top will be the inspiration for our next giveaway necklace! Voting starts tonight and will run until the end of the week (poll is on the right hand side of the page!). Once we have finished the necklace we will let you all know on Facebook and start the contest so stay tuned!

Love thyself!

I personally have a hard time remembering to wear jewelry on a daily basis. Funny, right?
You would think a girl who co-owns an accessories company would wear it all but the truth is I often struggle to find the energy just to brush my hair every morning.

I work in a predominately male work environment that routinely requires me to get my hands dirty and a lot of the jewelry I own feels oddly out of place among the mud and muck. This is why I love Boubeads, the pieces are great for what I do for the same reason they are great for nursing moms; they are durable, no fuss and they look great with everything while not looking like you tried too hard.

I haven't been doing too much "trying" lately either, my schedule has been so crazy that I really have gotten myself into a rut.  Being a mom, full time in the home or full time in the workplace is extremely taxing as most of you know and we often put ourselves last; because of this Chandace and I have decided to challenge each other to feel better about the way we look. We have started texting each other photos of what we are wearing each day to push ourselves to have more self confidence and to remember to invest time in ourselves; time that we would have normally let fall off of our priority list.

Here I am working our new necklace, Estelle while jazzed up for work as part of our confidence project:

We have added this necklace as well as three others to our Etsy shop tonight, check them out!

We would also like to show some love to two awesome blogs we are now sponsoring, Growing Up Geeky and The Naptown Organizer. These gals are amazing and so funny so please show them some love if you have a chance.

Have a great evening everyone! If you have your own fun ways of making yourself feel special or making sure you are on your own priority lists make sure to tell us in the comments section, we would love to hear from you!

Pleading for spring!

It has been unseasonably warm here lately and I think all of the nice weather has been making everyone itch for spring, us included! There's still snow on the ground but we are getting into the spirit over here, people!

A few weeks back I purchased a sample pack of OPI's Euro Centrale spring/summer nail lacquers and just fell in love with the colors for spring. You can see a lot of these colors featured heavily in the pieces we have created recently; a lot of  teals, cobalt blues, mustard, lilac, and corals.

We just obsessed with all the new pieces and we hope you are too!

Hello there...

We have decided to start a bit of a blog as a means for showing off what we have and communicating with our fans at length about what we love and what inspires us.

For those of you who aren't familiar with our story we would like to share it with you. We started our business in December 2012 mostly on accident. We are twins and moms in our mid-twenties and we both have beautiful boys. Chancie's son is four years old and Chandace's son is nine months old.

Shortly before Christmas, Chandace was experiencing difficulty with her son not wanting to stay focused enough to breastfeed  but noticed he would always pull on her necklaces if she was wearing them (and often breaking them in the process). She had heard of nursing necklaces before, so one day she decided to string some cheap children's beads on some plastic cording. Her son was enthralled with them and Chandace was ecstatic!

We met later that day and she showed me what she had made. I was so jazzed about this necklace, I never had the opportunity to breastfeed my son but if I had I would have definitely been into this. I told her "women would totally buy these", we brainstormed a bit and I polled some of my mom friends and we decided this might be a fun little hobby for us. My mom said we should call them "booby beads", the light bulb went off for both of us and our first official day in business as Boubeads had started.

As we developed and created several different prototypes we decided that we wanted to dye our own beads and we wanted to make them fashionable enough for any woman to wear, not just moms who were breastfeeding their children. We found quality suppliers and got to work.

Our pieces are now carried in a retail store as well as online through our Etsy store. We have been so completely overwhelmed by all the positive feedback and support we have received from everyone. We cannot thank you all enough for your support!

We hope that you stay tuned for what we have in store! In the meantime you can find us on Facebook and on Etsy.
